White Cat by Holly Black
I’ve not been this excited about a book since…Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows or…THE LAST SPIDERWICK BOOK! (Both I secretly want back. Okay, not so secretly with Spiderwick - for my English Coursework, I wrote the ‘next chapter’ where Jared, Simon and Mallory are adults and Jared has this ickle family…Look, I got an A. I can’t be that bad at writing!)
Anyway, after FINALLY finding the book in my bookstore, I bought it! £10.99 well spent :)
The whole male pov concept: At first, I found it hard going. And by ‘at first’ I mean, the first 2 pages. Tithe, Ironside and Valiant all being from the female perspective, it was new to me but shows just how talented Holly Black is.
Part you should never ever ever read after eating a chocolate brownie: The part where the main character Cassel puts pebbles in his leg. All I can say is it was descriptive, I read the word ‘blood’ and nearly passed out….
Character I like: Daneca Wasserman - She instantly reminded me of Hermione Granger. She’s not saving house elves but magic workers and their families. She’s cool and I took an instant liking to her. I really hoped that she’d end up with Cassel - what can I say? I didn’t see who she eventually dates coming!
Character I dislike: Cassel’s brother Barron. He just….annoys me. And at times, I just want to PUNCH him. -innocent face-
Character I hate: Lila. -grumbles- -grumbles a bit more- Why? BECAUSE. That’s why…because…she’s all..blonde and has boyfriends. And she’s all pretty and right now, it sounds like I’m secretly jealous. Of the boyfriends and the pretty. I like my brown, curly hair just the way it is :D
Why I like this book: It’s different from other books out there - it’s not about vampires or werewolves. It’s truly an original and that’s exactly what I needed to read. (Vampire books can get a tad predictable - hot male vampire meets innocent girl or hot female vampire meets innocent guy and they fall in love, you catch my drift?)
In conclusion: If you are reading a book at the moment, I suggest you stop reading it, get off your gluteus maximus, go to your local Waterstones or Borders (depending on which country you live) and BUY this book. And read it. Once you finish it and have enjoyed it…then you can read that other book.
Bring on the next one in the series :)
