Although not all my reviews are spoilery, which I do not consider this one to be, here is a little warning just in case.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I'm not actually going to write a long review for this book, because I do not feel I can do classic books justice.
However, I will talk about a few aspects of this book I enjoyed.
The story is set in Maycomb, during the American 'Great Depression'. The story focuses on Scout Finch, who lives with her brother Jem & lawyer father Atticus. There are a number of events in the book - from being terrified of neighbour Boo Radley to the event we're told about in the blurb; Tom Robinson's court case in which he is accused of raping a white woman.
Mostly, I loved the main character Scout/Jean Louise - she appeared older than her young years, and was, in the words of my American friend, very sassy. Her 'engagement' to the character Dill is so funny, especially the way she talks about him with such adoration at a young age.
Secondly, I adored Atticus. I believe he is one of the greatest literary characters the world has ever known. He appears to be a great lawyer & most importantly, a great father. The serious lines of text also come from him - the moral points.
Part of me is gutted that I did not read this book sooner, however, I'm glad I left it to a time when I could understand the text. I know many people read it for GCSE English and did not enjoy it, but I believe when you force someone to read a book, they are less likely to enjoy it.
So, if you've not read this book, approach it in your own time - it is one of the 50 books you should read before you die!!
