Although not all my reviews are spoilery, which I do not consider this one to be, here is a little warning just in case.

A Game of Thrones by George. R. R Martin
It usually takes me a sitting to read a book; mostly because I have nothing better to do but also the books I read on average are about 400-500 pages. So, imagine the shock of my brain's life when I sit down to a book that was over 800 pages long.
I do not feel I can give this book justice with a review. For one, it is too long for me to talk about every aspect of the novel, so instead, I am going to talk about my favourite parts/characters.
My favourite character is a tie between Daenerys & Jon Snow. I love Dany's relationship with Khal Drogo and I love Jon's general aweseomeness. The thing I love the most about the both of them, is the potential they both have. Would you like to hear the Jon Snow parentage theory I believe in? I believe he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen & Lyanna Stark [Ned's sister]. At first this theory saddened me because I was all 'NED!!!' but as the book continues, and more clues get thrown in, the more I believe in this theory.
I am yet to warm to any Lannister. Apparently that is common; apart from the fact everyone thinks Tyrion is great. I'm not quite seeing it. Admittedly, the people who have told me this have only watched the show so perhaps my view will change when I finally get around to seeing an episode. He's a clever character for sure, but I don't see how that equals likability.
This book has it's fair share of shocks and surprises as well as moments that rip your heart out due to sadness. Like, 'NOOOOOOOO' *breaks down sobbing on the floor* moments of sadness. If you've heard of Game of Thrones and don't have any idea what it is about, you are still aware that the book contains nudity and lots of it. People were telling me that I 'am too innocent to watch the show' so I thought I'd start with the book to prepare myself & prove them all wrong. Yes, there is the fair share of description, a thing this book hardly lacks, but I've read True Blood. The only thing that shocked me were the Lannister twins.
Do I recommend this book? Yes....only if you have time on your hands. I now want to read the next books in the series because they are very addictive. Every chapter ends on a cliffhanger making you want to read on. The amount of detail makes this book time consuming because I can't skim read like I usually do. However, there is enough action in the book to make the time consuming worth it.

On a random note, I read Daisy Miller by Henry James recently. I was supposed to read it two months ago for a lecture but at least I read it for the exam. It was only 100 pages so took me no time at all. It's set in Europe, and sees the main male character Winterbourne meet American girl Daisy Miller. She's a scandalous character who Winterbourne becomes infatuated with. The short novella also has a sad ending.
NEXT REVIEW: CARRIE JONES' ENDURE [Although I'm not sure when it will be up because I really do have to revise for exams]
